TE 803: Professional
|
I completed TE 803 during the spring semester of my internship year at Michigan State University. This course was coupled with a student teaching placement in a 5th grade classroom four days each week. During this time, I honed my teaching practice as I focused on learning best-practices for the Social Studies classroom. My work in TE 803 includes the development and implementation of a detailed Colonial America unit plan. This unit focused on connecting history to modern day life and emphasized the importance of developing a connection between the school and home.

TE 804: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice IISpring 2008
Instructor: L. Williams |
TE 804 was a part of the last set of classes during my internship year. During this course, I evaluated existing Science curriculum for strengths and weaknesses, then supplemented the curriculum to address areas of weakness. Through this process, I developed an Electricity and Circuits Science unit. This unit was inquiry-based, including many hands-on experiments, and culminated with a long-term project in which students worked in small groups to build model electric houses. During this class, I learned how to guide students through constructivist and collaborative learning experiences. I reflected on collaborative learning strategies by completing an inquiry project focused on achieveing equal participation within small group work.

CEP 810 - Teaching for Understanding with ComputersSpring 2011
Instructor: S. Wright |
This class helped me develop an understanding of how educators can use technology to both increase productivity and learn from others. I gained experience using productivity software for collaboration, including educational applications of Google Docs. During this course, I also set up an RSS reader to keep up-to-date on information in the field of education and educational technology. Through blogging, Twitter, social networking, and other Web 2.0 technologies, I worked to create a Professional Learning Network. This connects me with other passionate educators who I can continue to learn from in the future. Netvibes RSS Reader |

CEP 812 - Apply Educational Technology to PracticeSummer 2011
Instructor: C. Commeret |
In this course, I further developed my knowledge of Web 2.0 tools that can be used in the classroom, such as screencasting, online data visualization tools, and simple podcasting applications. Most of my time in CEP 812 was spent devoted to a "Wicked Problem" project in which I used technology to address a specific problem of practice. Through this project, I developed and implemented a plan to address the problem of finding adequate time for collaboration amidst busy teacher schedules. My solution involved the use of Google Calendar, Google Docs, and a grade level Wiki to organize and share information. I completed the course developing a Professional Learning Plan that detailed my future vision and goals. Wicked Problem Project |
CEP 822 - Approaches to Educational ResearchSummer 2011
Instructor: E. Wong |
This course began with an overview of methods of educational research, which helped me better evaluate and understand how published research studies can impact my own classroom practice. After identifiying a specific question about my educational practices, I spent the semester writing a research proposal to investigate the impact of blogging technology on student motivation during Readers' Workshop. Through this course, I developed an understanding of how to utilize the research process on a daily basis, even within my own classroom.

CEP 800 - Learning in Schools and Other SettingsFall 2011
Instructors: C. Roseth, Z. Mural |
In CEP 800, I reviewed educational theory and connected these theories to my own practices. Throughout the course, I looked for real world applications and examples of these learning theories. To share these connections and experiences, I created several technology-based projects, including a podcast and a digital story. Through this course, I improved my understanding how how the instructional methods that are used can impact student learning. |
CEP 815 - Technology and LeadershipFall 2011
Instructor: N. Sheltrown |
In CEP 815, I explored the many factors that affect student learning. I then built on this knowledge to better understand the complex relationship between technology, teaching, and learning. During this course, I studied the characteristics of effective leaders and further developed my leadership skills, including the planning and evaluation of technology use, implementation of professional development, and involvement of all stakeholders in technology integration. |
